Vvardenfell

Vvardenfell, also recognized as the Black Isle, is a sizable landmass situated within Morrowind’s crescent-shaped territory in Tamriel’s northeastern Inner Sea. Over its history, it has been home to the Aldmer, Dwemer, Chimer, and prominently the Dunmer. Serving as the primary backdrop for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind, Vvardenfell boasts Red Mountain as its most notable landmark—a volcano incessantly belching ash into the sky. Consequently, vast stretches of desolate Ashlands, characterized by lava flows and ashstorms, dominate regions like Molag Amur. These storms were once a catalyst for the Blight disease until the events chronicled in Morrowind.

During the Third Era, the area surrounding Red Mountain featured diverse ecosystems housing unique flora and fauna alongside numerous settlements. The political landscape mirrored this diversity, with Great Houses, the Empire, and the Tribunal Temple vying for power. Key cities on Vvardenfell included Vivec City, renowned for the Temple of Vivec and the Ministry of Truth; Balmora, the stronghold of House Hlaalu; Ald’ruhn, the bastion of House Redoran; and Sadrith Mora, the domain of House Telvanni. However, by the early Fourth Era, much of Vvardenfell lay in ruin, transformed into ash wastes.

Although a significant portion of the city’s essential infrastructure has been finished, ongoing construction of several cantons is underway, attracting both industry and labor to the southern coast of the islands.
